Nearly 18 percent of French petrol stations face fuel shortages

Around 18 percent of petrol stations across France were experiencing fuel shortages on Tuesday morning, the country’s junior energy minister has said.

Speaking to BFM TV, Maud Bregeon said the disruptions were linked to pricing policies adopted by oil giant TotalEnergies, which has capped retail fuel prices below those of competitors. The move has driven higher demand at certain stations, creating localised supply pressures.

“There is no overall problem of supply,” she said, stressing that the issue stems from logistical strain rather than a nationwide shortage.

Authorities say fluctuations in demand have strained distribution networks, leaving some stations temporarily without certain types of fuel.
