Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been given a clean bill of health following successful treatment for early-stage prostate cancer, revealed publicly for the first time, according to an official medical report released by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday.

The annual health report, dated April 20, 2026, states that Netanyahu, 76, first underwent surgery on December 29, 2024, to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia. The procedure at Hadassah Medical Center was described as successful and complication-free.

A routine follow-up MRI subsequently identified a minuscule suspicious lesion measuring less than one millimeter in the prostate. Further diagnostic tests confirmed the presence of early-stage prostate cancer with no evidence of metastases.

Netanyahu delayed report for months due to Iran war

Netanyahu said the report was delayed for two months to avoid giving Iran an opportunity to exploit his medical condition for propaganda during the war.

“I chose to delay the report’s publication so it would not come out at the peak of the war and be used by Iran for propaganda," Netanyahu said in a statement. "Today I can say I am in good health and excellent physical condition after treating a very early-stage prostate cancer that was completely removed.”

Treatment declared “fully successful”

The radiation therapy that the PM underwent was directed by Prof. Aharon Popovzer, director of the Sharret Institute at Hadassah Medical Center, in collaboration with Dr. Mark Wigoda, head of the hospital’s radiation therapy unit, and Dr. Shraga Gors of the same institute.

"A few months ago, as part of a routine check-up, we discovered a 0.9-centimeter mass that was found to be a prostatic adenocarcinoma," Popovzer said in a statement, adding that Netanyahu underwent "a comprehensive examination," and that the disease was found to be in "very early stages."

Popovzer said Netanyahu "underwent a modern, specialized kidney treatment at the Hadassah Medical Center two and a half months ago," adding, "We can say, based on the findings of these tests, that the disease has disappeared."

The report said the treatment was “fully successful,” with complete disappearance of the lesion confirmed by subsequent imaging and laboratory examinations.
