Ecuadorian and U.S. military forces have launched a joint operation to combat drug trafficking.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) on the social media platform X.
In particular, the Command said that on March 3, Ecuadorian and U.S. armed forces launched an operation in Ecuador targeting organizations designated as terrorist groups.
“Together, we are taking decisive action to confront narco-terrorists who have long inflicted terror, violence, and corruption on citizens throughout the hemisphere,” the statement said.
SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan expressed respect for Ecuador’s service members for “their unwavering commitment to this fight, demonstrating courage and resolve through continued actions against narco-terrorists in their country.”
No details regarding the scope or format of the operation have been disclosed by either country.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, on February 21, in the eastern Pacific Ocean, U.S. forces carried out an airstrike on a vessel involved in drug trafficking, killing three individuals.
