Defense Minister Katz appoints new military secretary, as Lebanon tensions persist

Defense Minister Israel Katz has appointed a new military secretary, as far-right ministers called to escalate attacks in Lebanon in response to two drones that hit Israeli territory near the border.

Announcing the appointment of Brig. Gen. Hisham Ibrahim on Sunday, Katz's office said the officer would enter the position immediately.

Ibrahim, a member of Israel's Druze community, currently serves as the head of the Civil Administration, Israel's governing body in the West Bank. He has previously served as the chief of the Armored Corps, commander of the 460th and 205th brigades, and deputy commander of the 91st Division.

IDF: Two suspected drones from Lebanon hit north Israel

Two suspected drones hit Israeli territory near the Lebanese border, the IDF said, after sirens sounded in areas of north-western Israel, including Rosh Hanikra and Shlomi.

"No injuries were reported," the IDF's statement said.

■ Israeli officials are concerned over the emerging U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, fearing it could make it harder to secure the removal or dilution of Iran's enriched uranium and to address other key Israeli objectives, political sources said.

■ Opposition leader Yair Lapid said the emerging agreement with Iran fails to achieve any of the war's objectives. "The regime survives, the missile program remains in place, and Iran can rebuild its nuclear program," he wrote on X.

■ Dozens of people joined pro-government rallies across Iran as hardline opponents of a reported framework agreement with the United States and Israel voiced opposition to the emerging deal, Iranian media reported.

President Isaac Herzog congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump on his 80th birthday, commending Trump's support for Israel, his stance against Iran and his efforts to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza.

■ The IDF said it intercepted a Hezbollah rocket fired at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, while separately, a suspected drone hit the area, after sirens sounded in the northern border communities of Metula and Ghajar. No injuries were reported.

■ Several people were wounded in Israeli strikes in Gaza City, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said.

■ The Israel Medical Association warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of what it described as severe and ongoing harm to the Palestinian healthcare system in the West Bank, calling on the government to reconsider its policy of withholding tax revenues collected on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.

Herzog salutes Trump for taking on ‘Iran’s empire of evil’ in 80th birthday tribute

President Isaac Herzog congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump on his 80th birthday on Sunday, commending Trump's support for Israel, his stance against Iran and his efforts to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza.

In a post on X, Herzog thanked Trump for his "leadership in confronting Iran's empire of evil" and for his "steadfast commitment to the security of Israel."
