Report: Director of Russian intercontinental ballistic missile plant detained on embezzlement charges

The director of the Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant (Krasmash), Alexander Gavrilov, has been detained in Krasnoyarsk, the Krasnoyarsk-based news outlet NGS24 reported, citing a source.

Gavrilov has been held at a pretrial detention center in Krasnoyarsk since late April on an embezzlement case, a source familiar with the situation told the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

Ivan Petrov, a member of the Krasnoyarsk city council, also said the defense plant’s director had been detained, citing sources. According to Petrov, Gavrilov is suspected of accepting a bribe of three million rubles.

Russia’s federal investigating authority told NGS24 it had no information on the matter. The Internal Affairs Ministry and the Federal Security Service had not commented on the detention at the time of publication. The plant declined to comment.

Krasmash produces intercontinental ballistic missiles, including the Sarmat strategic missile system, which the plant has put into serial production. The company is under European Union sanctions. Alexander Gavrilov had led the plant since 2018.
