Details: Trump said the strategically important waterway, crucial for global oil exports, will reopen quickly.
Quote: "Other countries use the strait. So we do have other countries coming up, and they'll help out.
"It won't be easy... I would say this – we will have that open fairly soon."
Background:
During weeks of military tensions with Iran, Trump has repeatedly stated that European allies should become involved and help ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Some allies, including France, have cautioned that NATO was not created for involvement in the Middle East but rather for collective defence and that ensuring security in the strait without Iran's consent would not be possible.
Announcing an agreement with Tehran on a temporary ceasefire and negotiations, Trump said Iran had promised to reopen passage through the Strait of Hormuz. However, in practice, the situation has changed little, with reports that only two vessels passed through the strait on 10 April.
On the same day, Trump also stated that Iran has "no cards" in the context of peace talks in Pakistan.
Earlier, he said it would be possible to assess the success of the negotiations with Iran within 24 hours.
