This trip to Armenia follows a major diplomatic milestone in the region on April 25, when Zelensky conducted his first visit to Baku since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. During that visit, Ukraine and Azerbaijan signed six bilateral documents focusing on defense-industrial cooperation and joint military production.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan highlighted the “broad prospects” for military-technical cooperation and emphasized the role of the state oil company SOCAR in the Ukrainian market.

Zelensky’s upcoming presence in Yerevan signals a coordinated effort to strengthen ties across the South Caucasus. In Baku, the president noted Ukraine’s readiness for trilateral peace talks and expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s consistent support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As the EPC summit approaches, international observers are watching how the Ukrainian president balances relations within the region, particularly as Azerbaijan solidifies its role as a key strategic partner while Armenia hosts this significant European gathering.
