The IDF fired at a civilian plane flying over the West Bank town of Beit El on Thursday night, after residents reported spotting four drones overhead, according to KAN News.
Soldiers began scanning the area and opened fire on a target, believing they had spotted a drone.
It was ultimately discovered that the landing route at Ben-Gurion Airport had been diverted eastward, KAN noted, which meant that planes preparing to land in Tel Aviv passed closer than usual to Beit El at an altitude of about 1,500 meters.

On Wednesday, several Hezbollah drones exploded in northern Israel, killing one IDF soldier and wounding several others.
On Monday, the IDF announced that a Hezbollah drone launched from Lebanon had struck the roof of a home in Metula, causing damage to the building but no injuries.
The Upper Galilee Regional Council confirmed in its own Monday statement that no one had been injured in the strike, adding that a fire had started at the impact site.
Later on Monday, the region experienced several drone intrusions within approximately one hour. As a result, there were two reported shrapnel falls in Shomera.
