Protesters were demonstrating against what they described as neglect in the state's handling of crime in Arab communities.

Activists said in a statement that "the violence and chaos in the streets are not fate, but the result of reckless and racist policies," adding that police "must carry out their duties independently and professionally to stop the murders and crime."

Settlers force Palestinians to exhume body buried near West Bank settlement

Israeli settlers on Friday forced Palestinians from the village of al-Asasa to exhume the body of a Palestinian man from a grave near the northern West Bank settlement of Sa-Nur, claiming the burial site was too close to the settlement. The burial had been coordinated in advance with Israeli security forces. Sa-Nur was evacuated during Israel's 2005 disengagement and has since been resettled.

The IDF said troops were dispatched to the cemetery after reports of clashes between Israeli civilians, who were "digging in the area," and Palestinians. The military said soldiers confiscated digging tools from the Israelis and remained at the scene "to prevent further friction." The army added that the family later transferred the body for reburial in a nearby village.

Israel approved the resettlement of Sa-Nur in the West Bank on Wednesday, which was evacuated as part of Israel's 2005 disengagement.

The plan, approved by the Civil Administration's High Planning Council, includes the construction of 126 permanent homes and was approved retroactively – about two weeks after 16 families had already moved there. The decision is seen as another step in the implementation of the repeal of the disengagement law in the northern West Bank.

Sa-Nur is one of four isolated settlements, along with Homesh, Ganim and Kadim, built in the 1980s. Following the Oslo Accords, the settlements became enclaves in Area C, fragmenting the territorial contiguity of nearby Palestinian communities
