Leidos has won a $2.7bn contract from the US Army to transition hypersonic weapons work from prototyping to production.

The latest order combines the Thermal Protection Shield (TPS) and Common Hypersonic Glide Body (CHGB) programmes into a single award. The combined structure aims to streamline development and speed delivery as part of acquisition reform.

The contract consolidates requirements for TPS and CHGB, with Leidos tasked with supporting production planning and supply chain arrangements intended to meet operational demand.

Leidos has served as prime contractor on TPS since 2021 and on CHGB since 2019.

Under the contract, the company will support work related to thermal protection and glide body elements, alongside integration activities linked to guidance, sensors and munition interfaces.

Leidos said it will use its existing capabilities in those areas as the programmes transition into a production-ready phase.

The award also links to other US Army production work held by Leidos.

Leidos defence president Cindy Gruensfelder said: “This contract is a major step forward in delivering hypersonic capabilities to the warfighter at speed.

“Our team is committed to supporting the Army and Navy in producing this critical operational capability.”

The latest award supports the company’s NorthStar 2030 strategy for defence and national security. Leidos said it will focus on hypersonic and precision-strike technologies as part of its long-term plans.

In April 2026, the company received a $617m US Army contract to produce additional launchers for the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc 2) programme, covering manufacturing and delivery of the launchers.

Leidos said the April 2026 launcher award brought its IFPC Inc 2 production contracts to nearly $1.2bn when combined with $356m in contracts issued in July and September 2025.
