Morning update

Millions of mourners gathered in Tehran for funeral prayers for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as ceremonies entered their second day.

US President Donald Trump indicated negotiations with Tehran would resume after the funeral period, while regional leaders continued urging implementation of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding and an end to ongoing violence in Lebanon and Gaza.

Funeral prayers were held for Ali Khamenei, members of his family and other victims of the February strike during a mass gathering in Tehran.

Iranian state media reported that Khamenei’s coffin and those of slain family members were moved to a designated site following the prayers.

Khamenei’s sons joined senior Iranian officials and military commanders, including IRGC leadership, during the funeral ceremonies.

Tehran Metro recorded more than seven million passenger trips linked to funeral events as crowds continued to arrive from across Iran.

Delegations from more than 100 countries attended the ceremonies, making the funeral one of the largest international gatherings hosted by Iran in recent years.

President Donald Trump said Washington and Tehran were taking a temporary pause in negotiations until the funeral proceedings conclude, while insisting diplomacy would continue afterwards.

Trump also indicated he expects to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next week.

Reports suggested Pakistan could host a new round of US-Iran talks after the funeral ceremonies end.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the Strait of Hormuz is not a military arena for outside powers, amid continued debate over shipping and security arrangements.

Israeli attacks continued in southern Lebanon and Gaza, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned against efforts to undermine the US-Iran memorandum of understanding.
