Putin says the drone that hit a residential building in Romania may have been Ukrainian

Russian President Vladimir Putin stopped short of ruling out that the drone that entered Romanian airspace in the early hours of May 29 was Ukrainian.

He noted that Ukrainian drones had previously crossed into Finland, Poland, and the Baltic states, and suggested the same could have occurred in Romania.

Putin said the initial reaction whenever drones entered European airspace had always been: “Help! The Russians are coming! The Russians are attacking!” It would then emerge, he said, that the drones were Ukrainian.

Putin added that if Russia were provided with “objective data” and drone remnants for expert analysis, Moscow would offer its assessment of what happened.

A drone struck a residential building in Romania during a Russian attack on Ukraine, injuring two people. Romanian President Nicusor Dan called the drone crash “the most serious incident to affect the country’s territory since the start of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine.”
