Russian agent linked to Medvedchuk's project detained in Odesa over SOF officer murder plot

The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a Russian FSB agent in Odesa who was plotting the assassination of a commander of a Special Operations Forces unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, the SSU reported this.

The suspect installed a GPS tracker on the soldier’s car, which the hitman was to use to track down and kill the Ukrainian soldier with a firearm.

The investigation revealed that the plot was orchestrated by a former resident of the Kirovohrad region who had lived in Russia for the previous 15 years. She came to the FSB’s attention after approaching the Moscow office of Drugaia Ukraina (The Other Ukraine), a political project led by former MP Viktor Medvedchuk.

There, the woman hoped to receive legal assistance after being accused of theft. However, instead of legal consultations, Medvedchuk’s representatives handed her over to FSB officers.

In exchange for closing the case, Russian intelligence officers dispatched the agent to Odesa to prepare an assassination attempt on the commander of the Special Operations Forces unit.

In Odesa, the agent rented an apartment in the building where the soldier lived. She also used FSB funds to purchase a used car so she could discreetly pull into the parking lot where the potential target’s car was parked.

The suspect then installed a GPS tracker under the hood of the Ukrainian soldier’s car, which she had received from the FSB before traveling to Ukraine.

Using remote access to the tracking device, the Russian intelligence service hoped to monitor the soldier’s routes and movement patterns.

The FSB planned to use the intelligence it obtained to eliminate the Ukrainian special forces soldier.

The SSU detained the agent immediately after she planted the GPS tracker, as she was traveling by taxi toward the state border to flee to Russia via third countries.

During searches, her smartphone was seized; she had used it to coordinate her actions with her FSB handler under the guise of a close personal relationship.

SSU investigators informed the agent of her status as a suspect under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).

The indictment against the suspect has been sent to court. She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice all persons involved in the preparation of the assassination attempt.

As reported by Ukrinform, the counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian FSB agent near Kyiv who was involved in preparing a new series of Russian missile and drone attacks on the capital region and spying on Defense Forces bases.
