Russian drones struck Odesa and Poltava overnight, damaging residential buildings, injuring civilians, and leaving at least one person dead, Ukrainian officials said.

Russian Drone Barrage Hits Odesa High-Rise, Kills Civilian in Poltava Overnight

Odesa was attacked by Russian drones on Tuesday morning, March 31. One of the drones struck a nine-story residential building, causing a fire and injuring one person.

On Telegram, the head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, reported:

“In the morning, the enemy attacked Odesa with strike UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles]. Unfortunately, a nine-story residential building in the Kyivskyi district was hit. The facade, balconies, and glazing from the second to fourth floors were damaged.”

The strike caused a fire, but rescuers quickly extinguished it.

The injured 50-year-old man was treated by doctors at the scene and will undergo further outpatient treatment. He sustained a cut wound to his forearm.

Operational and utility services are currently working at the site of the Russian attack.

Russian troops also launched a massive drone attack on Poltava late on Monday evening, March 30.

Initially, the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration (OVA), Vitaly Dyakivnych, wrote on Telegram:

“Flying debris from an enemy UAV was recorded in the Poltava district. An apartment building was damaged. Previously, one person was injured.”

After midnight, he clarified that one person had died and three others were injured. Two were hospitalized, including an 11-year-old boy.

On Tuesday morning, the State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported that the number of injured in Poltava had risen to four. Among them was a girl born in 2018.

Yuri Podolyaka is not the only widely read cheerleader of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, complaining in public, at the risk of imprisonment, that Vladimir Putin’s war is going badly.

“As a result of the hit, a multi-story residential building was damaged – the ceiling on the top floor was destroyed. Rescuers evacuated people and handed over the injured to doctors,” the DSNS report reads.

A strike was also reported on a production infrastructure facility and in an open area. The resulting fires were quickly extinguished.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia used 289 strike drones of various types across Ukraine, about 200 of which were Shahed-type UAVs.

The attack began at 6:00 p.m. on March 30 and involved Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas drones.

The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data as of 8:00 a.m., air defenses shot down or suppressed 267 Russian UAVs.

At the same time, 20 strike drones were recorded hitting 11 locations, while debris from downed UAVs fell in 6 additional areas.
