Russian drone strikes overnight on May 1 set fire to two apartment buildings in Odesa, the city’s military administration head, Serhiy Lysak, said.
“A fire has been recorded in a 16-story building. There was also a strike on another high-rise, where fires broke out on the 11th and 12th floors,” he said.
Lysak later said residential buildings in the Khadjibeysky district had been damaged. Rescuers reported two people injured and 25 others seeking psychological assistance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later put the injury toll from the Odesa strike at five, he said.
Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa regional military administration, said port infrastructure in the region had also been damaged.
Over the course of that night, Russia’s armed forces launched 210 drones at Ukraine, 140 of them Shahed strike drones. Ukraine’s air defenses say they neutralized 190; strikes were recorded at 14 locations.
Russian forces have been regularly striking Odesa in recent weeks. The previous drone attack on the city took place on April 30, leaving 20 people injured.
