Units of Ukraine's Defense Forces have struck an oil refinery in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region.
According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
During the night of July 2, Ukraine's Defense Forces struck the Lukoil-Nizhnegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in the city of Kstovo.
A direct hit on the facility was confirmed, triggering a fire on the refinery's premises.
According to preliminary information, the refinery's AVT-6 primary crude oil distillation unit was damaged.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
The refinery is one of the largest oil-processing facilities in the Russian Federation, with a design capacity of approximately 17 million tons of crude oil per year. It produces gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, lubricants, and other petroleum products used, among other purposes, to support the needs of the Russian armed forces.
The General Staff also reported that Ukrainian forces struck a Russian drone storage facility near Kamianka in the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.
In addition, Ukrainian forces targeted a railway bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River near Stanytsia Luhanska. The bridge is used by Russian forces for military logistics, including the transportation of personnel, weapons, and military supplies.
A Russian command and observation post near Vilshana in the Kharkiv region was also hit.
As reported by Ukrinform, citing Reuters sources, Russia has begun importing gasoline by sea from India in an effort to ease fuel shortages caused by Ukrainian strikes on its energy infrastructure.
