BAE Systems has completed the delivery of 19 Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicles (CATV) to the US military, bringing the total number handed over to US forces to 58.

Among the recipients in this latest shipment are the Vermont National Guard’s (VTNG) Army Mountain Warfare School (AMWS), which has received these vehicles for the first time.

The recent delivery also includes CATVs for the Arctic Region Test Center in Alaska and the 11th Airborne Division.

As part of the integration process, military personnel will receive hands-on training covering operation and maintenance of the vehicles.

BAE Systems Combat Mission Systems, sustainment and international vice president Dean Medland said, “As we continue to deliver on our commitment to the US military, we’re looking forward to seeing the impact of our CATVs in the field.

“The CATV’s unique capabilities will be a game-changer for the Vermont National Guard, Arctic Region Test Center and the 11th Airborne Division, enabling them to operate more effectively in challenging cold-weather environments.”

The CATV, which is part of the BvS10 family and an unarmoured variant of the Beowulf, was selected in 2022 to replace the Bv206 in US Army Arctic operations.

The all-terrain vehicle is equipped with two compartments that can be configured for carrying up to 14 personnel or cargo loads of up to 8 tonnes (t), and is designed to function at speeds of up to 65km/h.

Both the front and rear cabins can be adapted depending on the mission’s requirements.

The CATV programme has seen ongoing growth, with BAE Systems Hägglunds continuing to fulfil outstanding orders and 97 more vehicles currently in production.

Delivery and operational activities are taking place at several US military locations, including Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Fort Wainwright, the Arctic Region Test Center, and the Vermont National Guard.

In December 2024, BAE Systems secured contracts totalling $68m to supply 44 additional CATVs for the US Army. The Army has set an overall goal for a fleet of 487 vehicles.
