Finnish President Alexander Stubb has said he expects US President Donald Trump to maintain his attention on Russia's war against Ukraine and not backtrack on his pledge to help end it.

Details: Stubb acknowledged that Trump's focus is currently largely on the Middle East.
"He's very preoccupied with Iran right now. For understandable reasons, the war in Iran is taking a lot of oxygen out of what's going on in Ukraine. In my mind, it seems like the peace talks are now on hold," he said.
When asked if European allies should unite to help Trump in the Persian Gulf, the Finnish president replied: "This might sound a bit harsh, but Iran is not my war. Ukraine is my war."
Stubb does not think Europeans should intervene in the conflict with Iran while fighting continues. But he said that if Trump wants help in securing passage through the Strait of Hormuz, they might discuss it later.
He also added that he is communicating with Trump "a little bit less" than before, as the US president is currently occupied with matters in the Persian Gulf.

Trump criticised German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for stating that Berlin does not consider the war America is waging against Iran to be its concern.
He also again reproached NATO allies for allegedly being unwilling to assist Washington in the conflict, despite expectations they would do so before the operation began.
