The Israeli military attempted to assassinate Ali Larijani, the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council and one of the most powerful figures in Iranian leadership following the assassination of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, in strikes by the Israeli air force overnight into Tuesday.
The IDF is awaiting the results of the strike.
The IDF announced this morning that the Air Force struck regime infrastructure in the cities of Tehran, Shiraz, and Tabriz. The strikes targeted headquarters of various security bodies, including intelligence agencies, internal security forces, and the Basij forces.
It was reported that the IDF attacked sites where ballistic missiles, launchers, drones, and air defense systems were stored.
The IDF also said that Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of the Basij – a paramilitary militia affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards that has played a central role in suppressing domestic protests – was killed in a strike in Tehran.
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said on Tuesday morning that the IDF is continuing its offensive against Iranian targets, and said that "significant preventive achievements were recorded overnight, with potential to influence operational outcomes and the IDF missions."
Dozens of Breslov Hasidic worshippers entered Joseph's Tomb in the West Bank city of Nablus early Tuesday morning without prior coordination with the Israeli military.
According to a security source, a bus carrying the group arrived at the site around 6 A.M. Roughly four hours later, the army announced it had evacuated the group and transferred them to police for questioning, after confrontations broke out between the worshippers and local Palestinians.
Palestinian media reported that the Hasidim threw stones at residents' homes during the incident.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has instructed American diplomats worldwide to urge foreign governments to act quickly to curb Iran and Iran-aligned groups, citing an "elevated risk of attack," according to a private State Department cable obtained by ABC News.
The cable calls on governments to "move expeditiously to diminish the capabilities of Iran and Iran-aligned terrorist groups" and says coordinated international pressure is more effective than unilateral action, the report said.
The IDF said it carried out a wave of strikes in Iran targeting missile production facilities and command centers in Tehran, Shiraz and Tabriz.
According to military sources, dozens of air force jets conducted the strikes Monday based on military intelligence. In Tehran, the IDF said it targeted command centers linked to Iran's security bodies, including the Ministry of Intelligence and the Basij, as well as sites used for storing and launching UAVs, ballistic missiles and air defense systems.
In Shiraz, the strikes targeted an internal security command center and a ballistic missile site, while additional air defense systems were hit in Tabriz.
The IDF said the strikes are part of an ongoing effort to degrade Iran's military capabilities and reduce threats to Israel.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said the U.S. military presence in the Middle East does not bring security and called for regional countries to take responsibility for their own security.
"The face and order of the Middle East will change, but not according to U.S. plans," Qalibaf said on state TV, adding that "Islamic countries of the region" should establish security and economic order, and that U.S. forces should leave the region.
