Labour Day in Lebanon starts amid heavy Israeli shelling

The state-owned National News Agency (NNA) reported Israeli warplanes flying over Tyre, south Lebanon, as the public holiday begins.

Meanwhile, several towns and villages south of the country were subject to heavy shelling, including the areas of Wadi al-Hujeir, Qalaouiyah and Al-Ghandouriyah.

Member of parliament Qassem Hashem saluted workers on Labour Day, saying: "The first of May arrives while Lebanon is subjected to a criminal Israeli aggression and under oppressive political, economic and social conditions that have left their negative effects on the working class, who are paying the price in blood, tears and patience for a living and a decent life."

"So, greetings to the workers of Lebanon on their holiday, who deserve all rights in a homeland built by their hands, the tan of their foreheads and their sacrifices.," he added
