Orbán: Russia should be part of Europe's security and energy systems

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that Russia's aggression against Ukraine should not prevent it from becoming part of Europe's future security and energy systems.

Quote: "The point is that we think that the Russians should not be pushed out. First from the European security system, should not be pushed out from the European energy system, and should be not pushed out from the trade system of Europe."
Details: Orbán believes that Russia has committed aggression against Ukraine from the perspective of international law, but this does not prevent the EU from rebuilding relations with Moscow in the future.
"Why don't we create a new energy system for Europe involving the sources from Russia and so on and so on. So war is a war, [it] must be closed and then we should return to the old harmony or if you disagree on that subject, let's create a new security and trade system together with Russia," he said.
Background:
Recently, Hungary called on the European Union to suspend tariffs and additional duties on fertiliser imports from Russia and Belarus amid the situation in the Middle East.
Orbán has also blamed Ukraine for rising oil prices and urged the European Commission to lift sanctions on Russian energy resources.
Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said she sees no desire among member states to conclude energy deals with Russia.
