Last night, the Russians fired 70 missiles and 611 drones at Ukraine, including more than 60 missiles at Kyiv. The State Emergency Service has already extinguished a fire on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which broke out following the attack.
According to Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported this on Facebook.
“Efforts to deal with the aftermath of the Russian strikes are ongoing in Kyiv, as well as in Kharkiv. Last night, the Russians launched more than 60 missiles at the capital alone. In total, 70 missiles and 611 drones were used against Ukraine,” Zelensky noted.
He reported that, as of now, there are 28 known wounded and four fatalities in the capital. He expressed his condolences to all the families and loved ones.
“A Russian strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra set the Dormition Cathedral on fire – a church whose history dates back to the 11th century. And this is one of Russia’s most serious crimes against Christian culture to date. The State Emergency Service has already extinguished the fire on the cathedral’s roof,” Zelensky emphasized.
According to the president, in Kharkiv, the Russians launched a second strike against rescue workers extinguishing a fire at the site of the earlier strike on an industrial facility.
“So far, tragically, five people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Nine people have been injured. In Dnipro, Russia struck the grounds of a railway station, a college, and several enterprises,” he stated.
The president added that strikes also occurred in other cities and communities. Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions were also targeted.
“This is how Russia shows the world its intention to continue the war. It is very important that there be a response from the G7 countries, which are now gathering for their summit – and that this response be decisive and substantive: more pressure on the aggressor and more support for Ukraine’s air defense, especially anti-ballistic capabilities. I thank everyone who is helping us protect lives,” he added.
Also, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that Ukraine needs more resources to intercept missiles and defend against Russia’s barbaric attacks.
According to her, Russia launched another massive strike on Ukraine last night using missiles and drones. Kyiv was the enemy’s primary target. Four people were killed.
Damage and destruction were reported in nearly all districts of the capital.
Not only residential buildings were damaged, but also cultural heritage sites—the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the roof of the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Art and Culture Museum Complex, and the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio.
In Kharkiv, four State Emergency Service rescuers and a civil protection specialist from the Regional Military Administration were killed in a second Russian strike on the site where they were fighting a fire.
In the Kyiv region, two people were wounded, and two others were injured due to shelling in Dnipro.
Svyrydenko expressed her gratitude to the rescuers, medical personnel, utility services, and everyone who has been working on the ground since the first moments after the strike, saving people and mitigating the consequences of the attacks.
"Russia continues to expand the boundaries of its barbarism. It is deliberately striking residential neighborhoods with ballistic and cruise missiles, destroying cultural heritage, and terrorizing civilians. Ukraine continues to need more means to intercept missiles. Only in this way can we protect our people and our cities from these barbaric attacks,” the head of government emphasized.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Air Defense Forces have intercepted 50 missiles and 582 drones used by Russian invaders to attack Ukraine since the evening of June 14. Kyiv was the main target of the attack.
