Syria: Israeli Army Expands Base in Quneitra Countryside

Southern Quneitra countryside saw military escalation in recent days, with Israeli troop movements including the transfer of prefabricated rooms to Eastern Tal al-Ahmar, alongside incursions and the establishment of checkpoints in several areas.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra said Israeli army forces moved three prefabricated rooms to Eastern Tal al-Ahmar, in southern Quneitra province, on Friday, April 17.

This comes as part of the expansion work at the base established on the hill after the fall of the previous regime and the Israeli forces’ advance into the buffer zone. The correspondent added that Israeli forces had earlier shelled areas surrounding the hill with artillery rounds.

Eastern Tal al-Ahmar holds a strategic geographic position in the southern part of Quneitra province, as it lies inside the buffer zone along the barbed-wire fence.

At the same time, Israeli army patrols entered Al-Samdaniyah, in central Quneitra province, and set up a checkpoint on the main road between the village and al-Ajraf. Quneitra Media Directorate said the province had witnessed noticeable field escalation over the past 24 hours, marked by a series of Israeli military movements and incursions on several fronts.

It added that three military vehicles, accompanied by an ambulance, entered Eastern Al-Samdaniyah, while another incursion took place on the road linking Eastern Al-Samdaniyah and al-Ajraf, where a temporary checkpoint was set up, and passersby were searched.

The forces also positioned themselves in an abandoned house east of Eastern Al-Samdaniyah, on the outskirts of Tal Kroum, from dawn until the evening. The directorate also confirmed that the Israeli army brought in three trucks carrying three prefabricated rooms to Eastern Tal al-Ahmar in southern Quneitra countryside, which it said indicated a new phase of expansion at the site.

This coincided with intensive Israeli warplane activity over the area, along with a state of alert and active movement by UN forces around Tal Kroum since the morning, as field monitoring and follow-up operations continued to document any new military or security developments.

Search Checkpoint Set Up

The Israeli army set up a search checkpoint in central Quneitra countryside during an incursion on Thursday, April 16.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra said an Israeli army patrol advanced in the vicinity of al-Mantara dam and Rasem al-Halabi, in central Quneitra countryside.

It also established a checkpoint on the main road to search passersby, amid frustration among residents.

The correspondent confirmed that no arrests were recorded following the search operation and the incursion, but both coincided with heavy Israeli warplane flights. The correspondent also noted that an Israeli force entered al-Asbah, in southern Quneitra province, on April 15 and remained there until dawn the following day.

The Israeli force consisted of six military vehicles. It entered the village and searched a number of civilian homes.

Quneitra Media Directorate had reported on Wednesday evening that Quneitra province had seen limited field movement earlier that day, represented by Israeli army incursions into Eastern Al-Samdaniyah in Quneitra countryside.

The Israeli army set up a checkpoint to search passersby on the road linking Eastern Al-Samdaniyah and al-Ajraf. It also sent nine military vehicles to the junction of the Jubata al-Khashab quarries in northern Quneitra countryside, without any arrests being recorded.

Israeli army incursions continue across the Quneitra countryside, alongside search campaigns, raids, arrests, and the installation of road checkpoints.

UNDOF Intensifies Patrols

United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, UNDOF, troops deployed near the villages of Rafid, Suwaysah, and Sida Golan in southern Quneitra on April 9, in preparation for launching monitoring patrols along the ceasefire line with the occupied Syrian Golan.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra reported that UNDOF forces operating in Quneitra and the Golan have intensified their security patrols over the past two days across areas and villages adjacent to the ceasefire line.

The move came after repeated calls from residents for civilian protection in Quneitra, especially following a rise in Israeli arrests and violations targeting residents. The latest incident was the killing of a young man from the town of Rafid in the south of the province on April 3.

The UN forces have also continued to establish temporary nighttime observation posts within the buffer zone under UNDOF responsibility, while maintaining contact with local communities.
