Telegram has begun flagging accounts that use unofficial versions of the app.
A warning now appears on a user’s profile indicating that they are running an unofficial client. “This may reduce the security of your conversation with this user,” the notification reads.
The specialized outlet Kod Durova reported in late March that such warnings would appear in the app. Soon after, the messenger itself confirmed this.
After Roskomnadzor tightened its restrictions on Telegram in Russia, users began downloading the app Telega in large numbers. IT specialists found that the app is not safe to use: the messenger, whose creators were suspected from the start of ties to VK, intercepts user traffic and can gain access to their entire correspondence.
