Sergeant Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz was killed in battle while fighting in Lebanon, the IDF announced Sunday morning.

Katz, 22, was born in New Haven, Connecticut, United States, and was killed during an attack where three other soldiers were moderately wounded.

The families have been notified, the military confirmed.

"My oldest Son with a zest for life and jokes," Mendy Katz, Moshe's father, wrote on Facebook.

"My heart is shattered, and the wound is real. May he be a malitz yosher for only good things."

"Moshe immigrated to Israel from the United States, enlisted in the Paratroopers Brigade, and fought bravely in defense of the homeland," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X, offering his condolences to the family.

"On behalf of all citizens of Israel, we embrace Moshe’s family in their difficult hour and wish a swift and full recovery to our fighters who were wounded in the same incident."

Five IDF soldiers have been killed fighting in Lebanon since the beginning of Operation Roaring Lion on February 28th.

Iran, Hezbollah step up night attacks against Israel

Iran and Hezbollah fired repeated missile, rocket, and drone barrages against northern and southern Israel on Saturday night, with missiles and rocket sirens sounding throughout the night.

Hezbollah rockets targeted the Menashe region at 1:30 a.m., with an Iranian ballistic missile triggering alarms in Beersheba, Ashkelon, and several southern Israel locations minutes later.

Additional drone intrusion alerts sounded during the night in the Israel-Lebanon border communities, the Upper Galilee, and the Golan.

According to Magen David Adom, no casualties were reported after the attacks.

This is a developing story.
