Will the Democrats be able to capitalize on Trump's unpopular war?

By most conventional metrics, Donald Trump's decision to attack Iran should be a gift to Democratic party candidates ahead of the midterm elections in November and the presidential election in 2028. Widely seen as a war of choice for which the U.S. president barely tried to provide coherent justification, the offensive in Iran is broadly unpopular. Its consequences – chiefly the spike in oil prices – risk disrupting the global economy and driving up the cost of gas at a time when American voters regularly name inflation and affordability as their top concerns.
