A 17-year-old ninth-grader stabbed a teacher to death outside a school in Dobryanka, a city in Russia’s Perm Krai roughly 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Perm, Governor Dmitry Makhonin said.
The attack took place at the school’s entrance. The teacher was taken to a hospital, where she died from her wounds. “Unfortunately, despite all the doctors’ efforts, it was not possible to save Olesya Petrovna Baguta, a Russian language and literature teacher at School No. 5 in Dobryanka,” Makhonin said.
The motive is unknown. The regional Internal Affairs Ministry stated investigators are working to determine why the student carried out the attack and that he has been taken to a local police station.
The Russian security services-linked Telegram channel Mash and the Russian law enforcement-linked Telegram channel Shot report that the victim was a 55-year-old Russian language and literature teacher who had been the teenager’s homeroom teacher. They claim he had a “personal grudge” against her.
Dmitry Antonov, the head of the municipal district, said the ninth-grader had a prior police record and had been held back to repeat grades on multiple occasions.
