Lithuania to allocate €4M for energy equipment in Ukrainian schools and hospitals

At the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2026) in Gdańsk, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Lithuanian Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas signed a Joint Declaration to strengthen cooperation in energy resilience and recovery.

Shmyhal announced the agreement on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“Under these arrangements, Lithuania will allocate €4 million for the installation of solar panels and energy storage systems at social infrastructure facilities, including Ukrainian schools and hospitals,” the minister said.

Previously supplied Lithuanian equipment has already been used under the Ray of Hope project, enabling six Ukrainian healthcare institutions to generate their own electricity, with another facility currently developing technical solutions.

“We are grateful to our partners for their decision to provide additional financial support,” Shmyhal commented.

He added that priority areas of cooperation also include emergency support for Ukraine’s energy sector, such as the supply of transformers, generators, critical spare parts, and other equipment to meet urgent needs.

In particular, dismantled equipment from Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plant and the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant is already being used in Ukraine to repair energy infrastructure.

As reported, under the Ray of Hope program, 21 hospitals have commissioned solar panels with a total capacity of more than 1.8 MW since the beginning of 2026.
